Compared to the past, the continuously changing role of teachers in teaching-learning process has become more important in the recent years and has become a guide who not only explains the subject matter but also facilitates the learning process. The Department of Turkish Language Education was established in 1998 during reconstruction of Faculties of Education in Turkey.
Qualification Awarded  
The students who have graduated from the Department of Turkish Education is awarded with a Bachelor's degree in the field of Turkish Teaching.
Level of Qualification:  First Cycle Degree

1 - High school diploma, 2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (OSS)
Recognition of Prior Learning  
Recognition of prior learning is at the beginning stage in the Turkish Higher Education System. Karadeniz Technical University and hence the Department of Turkish Education is no exception to this. However, exams of exemption are organised at the start of each term at the University for courses compulsory in the curriculum, such as Foreign Languages and Basic Computing. The students who have completed the learning process for these courses on his/her own or through other means, and believe that they have achieved the learning outcomes specified are given the right to take the exemption exam. The students who achieve a passing grade from these exams are held exempt from the related course in the curriculum, and this grade is entered into the transcript of the student.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations  
To be able to secure the bachelor's degree in the field of Turkish Education the students are required to (a) have passed all courses in the curiculum with a grade of at least DC form the, (b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, (c) completed the compulsory school prcatice.
Profile of the Programme  
Turkish Education department have a 4 year education with new approaches at teacher education and education. Aim of Turkish Education department is to prepare students following current technologies about instructional technologies, and applying them to learning environment, using different type of assessments methods, arranging teaching activities, using different learning methods and strategies to education, supporting other teachers using the native language correctly. Our graduates will be Turkish teachers in primary education schools and Turkish educators in universities.
Examination, Assessment and Grading Regulations  
Every term, students are subjected to various mid-term studies (mid-term exams, presentation, project, seminars, quizzes, assignment, laboratory practices, etc.,) and end-of-term examinations. The contribution of both mid-term and end-of-term examinations to overall score is 50%. Marks are assigned out of 100 points. In order to attend to the end-of-term examination of a course, students must attend at least 70% of its theoretical part and if there are practical and/or laboratory sessions, they must attend 80% of them. It is required to obtain 40 out of 100 points from end-of-term examination of a course regardless of its midterm examination mark. In calculating the end-of-term mark, if a class size is more than 10, ?Norm-Referenced Assessment System? is employed, whereas if a class size is less than 10, ?Criterion-Referenced Assessment System? is employed. ?Students are regarded as successful if they get any of such scores as AA, BA, BB, BC or CC. In the case of having DC, which is a conditional mark, students can pass the course as long as they have a CGPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 for that term. Students having the marks from DD to FF fail. Students can take make-up examinations from all courses that they have failed at the end of the each term as long as these courses are belong to that term. Graduation Requirements  
The graduation requirements for the Department of Turkish Education are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and completed the compulsory practical placement period of 60 days and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates  
Our graduates can take to work in elementary education schools attached to Ministry of National Education, administrative tasks, training centers and universities as Turkish educators.
Access to Further Studies  
Our graduates can take master and doctorate degree in departments of Turkish Education, Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish Language and Literature Education at Turkey and in department of Program Development at foreign countries.
