The aim of the course:
Making knowledge about the introduction of matter and its measurement, atomic structure and periodic table, chemical bonding, chemical formulas and types of chemical reactions, chemical equations and calculations and the states of matter.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Knows the properties of matter, pure matter, element, compound and mixture concepts and their differences, separates mixtures into their components.2,6,101,
LO - 2 : Explains the structure of the atom using different atomic theories.2,6,101,
LO - 3 : Knows and exemplifies energy levels, quantum numbers, placement of electrons in orbitals.2,9,101,
LO - 4 : Know the general properties of the periodic table, atomic volume, ionization energies, electron affinity, electronegativity.2,9,101,
LO - 5 : Know and exemplify chemical bonds: ionic bonds, covalent bonds, metallic bonds, lewis structures and octet rule.2,9,101,
LO - 6 : Chemical formulas and types of chemical reactions: writing and naming compounds, writing simple and molecular formulas and analyzing the bond structure of a given compound.2,9,101,
LO - 7 : Know and apply types of chemical reactions, writing chemical reactions, balancing reactions.2,9,101,

Contents of the Course
The matter: elements, compounds, mixtures, separation of mixtures and compounds, material laws; Atomic structure and the periodic table: Characteristics of light, atomic theory and atomic models, the energy levels of the atom, quantum numbers, arrangement of electrons to the orbitals , the general features of the periodic table, atomic raius, ionization energies, electron affinity, electronegativity; Chemical Bonding: ionic bonds, covalent bonds, metallic bonds, Lewis structures and the octet rule; Chemical formulas and chemical reaction types: writing and naming of compounds, simple and molecular formulas, types of chemical reactions, writing of chemical reactions, balancing reactions; Stoichiometry: chemical calculations, the limiting reagent, the reaction yield
