FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations started to education in the academic year of 2002-2003.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and prepared and successfully defended a thesis are given Master's Degree in LABOUR ECONOMICS AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

- Students admitted to the program from outside the field are required to attend the Scientific Preparation Program and be successful in the courses determined based on their graduation status.

OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
MDepartment of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations is an interdisciplinary branch of science that includes many fields such as labor law, labor economics, labor sociology and labor psychology. To ensure that the student acquires the ability to access, evaluate and interpret information by conducting scientific research. The main aim of our department is to train experts, professionals and academicians who have the knowledge that may be needed in theory and practice, for working areas in both the private and public sectors.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (60 ECTS) from thought courses with a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and prepared and defended a thesis.
KTU Graduate Education Regulations
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
Students are subjected to a midterm exam, term study (project, seminar, quiz, assignment, or a second midterm exam), and final exam for each course. The share of the midterm exam in the final grade of the course is 30%, that of the term study is 20%, and that of the final exam is 50%. All exams are graded out of 100 points. For a student to be considered successful in a course, s/he must get at least a letter grade of ?CC? as the end-of-semester grade in that course.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
To graduate from the master’s degree program, it is necessary to successfully complete - Minimum eight courses including compulsory courses, one of which must be in English, corresponding to at least 24 credits (120 ECTS credits) in total as well as the “Seminar” course and the “Scientific Research and Publication Ethics” course (non-credit) by the end of the fourth semester and - The thesis study by the end of the sixth semester. 
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
Our graduates in their early careers
1. In the private sector, they are employed as experts and managerial candidates in duties and positions related to employee-employer relations, especially in the human resources department.
2. They take part in union activities as experts and assistant experts on collective bargaining, collective bargaining, collective labor disputes, and union training.
3. They work as experts and assistant experts in positions related to working life in relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
4. They conduct research and postgraduate studies in national and international fields related to business life.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
The department is using the a part of the first building bloc of the faculty of administrative and economical sciences for academic personnels. A part of the second building bloc of the faculty is equipped with technological classrooms and computer laboratories are allocated to the public administration. All of the academic personnels have laptobs, computers connected to the Internet.
