FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Ph.D. Program in the Turkish Language and Literature Department was started in 2009. Establishment of the program provided continuity of academic research in the department and enabled students to make advanced research.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and prepared and successfully defended a thesis are given given Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

MODE of STUDY

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - Master's Degree in acceptable fields,
2 - Sufficient score from the National Academic Staff & Graduate Education Exam (ALES),
3 - English proficiency (500 from TOEFL / 6 from IELTS)
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Phd program helps to students for acquiring abilities of academic research, interpretting academic events with extensive and broad vision and achieve new synthesis for required steps.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed a minimum of 24 local credits (60 ECTS) from thought courses with a CGPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00, and prepared and defended a thesis.

EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
For each course one mid-term exam (30%), one homework or one quizze (20%) and one final exam (50%).
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, achieved a CGPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 and prepared and successfully defended a thesis are given Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in the field of TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature serves in the Faculty of Letters and has the following facilities: 3 professors, 2 associate professors, 6 assistant professors and 8 research assistants. There are 16 rooms, 1 meeting room and 1 secretariat room for academic staff. There are also 6 classrooms and 1 archive room.
