The aim of the course:
This course enables graduate students of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering to learn the solidification mechanisms of pure metals and alloys and to become familiar with the casting techniques applied to shape metal alloys with this information.

Contents of the Course
Liquids and solids. Homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleations. Solidification and growth of pure metals and different alloys. Distribution coefficient, constitutional undercooling, macrostructure development. Centerline feeding resistance, heat transfer in solidification. Gating and risering of castings. Fluidity and hot tears. Gases in metals. New (hybride) casting methods. Zone refining and crystal growth.
