The aim of the course:
The course aims to expose the students to the wood chemistry research methods to analyze wood-cell componenents. They learn to comment analyze data of wood analyze and to accurately describe and interpret the analyze results. They will be able techniques for sampling and preparation of samples.

Contents of the Course
Main components in wood. Solubility of wood in hot and cold water. Dilute alkali and some organic solvents. Determination of holocellulose, cellulose, alpha cellulose, pentosans and lignin content of wood. Determination of ash, silica and silicates in lignocelulosics. Analysis of extractives. Some functional groups in wood and their determinations. Swelling and water absorbtion characteristics of cellulose. Chrystalinity degree and crystal size of cellulose. Analysis of tall-oil
