The course also teaches known models of mineral deposits with best examples from around the globe. Mineral deposit types present in Turkey are also given due interest. |

Introductory definitions, Morphologies of mineral deposits, Ore structures and textures; Methods used in understanding the conditions of mineral deposition; Classification of mineral deposits; Mineralising fluids and Mineral deposition; Hydrothermal alteration and its use in mineral research; Orthomagmatic deposits: Cr, Ni, Fe, Pt, Ti deposits; Pegmatitic deposits; Greisen deposits; Porphyry type ore deposits: General features and distribution, patterns of hydrothermal alteration and mineralisation, genesis, examples from Turkey; Skarn deposits: General characteristics and distribution, replacement reactions, ore and gangue minerals, skarn zonation, formation of skarns, skarnoids and retrograde alteration, examples. Massive sulphide deposits: Classification of VMS deposits, Kuroko deposits, Besshi type deposits, Cyprus type deposits, hydrothermal alteration pattern, genesis, Examples from Turkey. |
