The aim of the course:
The purpose of this course is to educate students in surface mining engineering, and to bring them to an understanding of the industry and the technology. Emphasis is placed on encouraging students to learn the surface mining by observing and doing: they conduct case studies, visit mines, see films, using computer software, solve problems, compile mining method notebooks, and design open pit mining systems.

Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : calculate stripping ratios, geometry and pit limits of surface mining.1,21,3
LO - 2 : estimate reserve of ore deposit.1,21,3
LO - 3 : design rock blasting and fragmentation.1,21,3
LO - 4 : select loading and hauling equipment in surface mining.1,21
LO - 5 : calculate the slope stability both for individual bench and overall slope of surface mines.1,21,6
LO - 6 : take responsibility to carry out pit planning and design.1,21,3
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome
