The aim of the course:
The objectives of this course include introducing the use of GIS as a supporting tool in decision making in the field of urban and regional planning (spatial decision support system) and its applications in a variety of planning related fields, as well as the process of practicing a GIS project on a related planning problem starting from problem definition up to its resolution. In addition, in the context of illustrating above mentioned applications, this course aims informing the students about the GIS practices of national and international institutions and the works that are being carried out in establishing Turkish National GIS.

Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : be acquainted with GIS applications that support decision making process in urban and regional planning and discuss their uses based on sample applications. 12,17,191,4,
LO - 2 : practice the basic processes of a planning problem starting from problem definition up to its resolution in GIS medium using real data in the context of the applications that they learned. 12,17,191,4,
LO - 3 : implement a GIS project concerning an urban problem which is constructed on their own initiatives. 12,17,191,4,
LO - 4 : gain experience in resolving problems that they encounter during the implementation of a planning related GIS project. 12,17,191,4,
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome

Contents of the Course
