The aim of the course:
The main objective of the course is to equip the students with the knowledge of the historical course of Turkish economy. Through teaching the foundations and the evolution of Turkish economic history the students are expected to gain and improve their ability and capability to understand and interpret the major socio-economic and socio-cultural that have shaped today's Turkiye's demographic and urban structure.

Contents of the Course
A general analysis of Turkish economic history from social and cultural aspects; an investigation of Turkish socioeconomic structure in the frameworks of capitalism, mercantilism, core-periphery relations and regional disparities in the context of broader world history; a historical (re)evaluation of the social, economic and cultural factors that have shaped the current demographic and urban structure of Turkiye; the concepts of economic growth versus economic development, human development index.
