The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide the students with knowledge on principles of forest logging operations and transport planning. Evaluation and comparison of options for the transport of forest products.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : describe principles and methods of felling, primary transport, processing and loading timber for maximum utilization, efficiency and minimum environmental impact1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,13
LO - 2 : select a harvesting systems that meets site, stand, economic and forest management conditions1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,13
LO - 3 : develop a logging plan for a given area including a description of harvest system, operations, cost estimates and production plan/schedule.1,2,3,5,6,7
LO - 4 : out in the field cut block boundaries and a road/landing network for conventional harvest equipment.1,2,3,4,6,7,8,10,12

Contents of the Course
Analysis of interactions between transport techniques and road systems. Advanced topics in road and landing spacing, determination of road standards, analysis of logging techniques and transpot vehicles. Cost and productivty of transport machines. Annual resource scheduling and logging/transportation planning. Technical, economic and environmental aspects of forest transportation method
