The aim of the course:
Basic principles of using geological data in engineering structures are imparted. And also the methods to prevent the mass movements are discussed.
 
Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : define earth and geological processes effecting on earth crust forming, and rocks and rocks forming minerals.1,14
LO - 2 : perce rock materials, rock masses, discontiunities and soils2,5,10
LO - 3 : solve engineering geological and geotechnical promlems using quantitavite values and mathematical models2,3,5,8,12
LO - 4 : analyse disasters forming mechanism2,3,4,5,8,12,13
LO - 5 : synthetize of different geotechnical problems, and determinate relationship between these problems and human2,3,4,8,12,13

Contents of the Course
Introduction (definitions, evolution of engineering geology) ; Classification of rocks for engineering purpose; Mass movement (classification, reasons, preventation) ; Rock slope stability methods; Dam geology ( classification, selection of location and type, engineering geology research for dams) ; Tunnelling geology (definitions, problems in tunnelling, tunelling methods, classification of tunnel rocks) ; Other topics (foundation geology, new technique and methods in engineering geology, engineering geology maps) .
