The aim of the course:
To discuss the relationship between aesthetics and architecture; emphasize the essence, importance and the place of aesthetics in social, cultural and daily life, in architectural education, and in design activity.

Contents of the Course
Basic concepts: Aesthetics, beauty, art and architecture. The science of aesthetics and its studying fields: Aesthetic doctrines, environmental aesthetics, Gestalt theory, aesthetics as an evaluation criteria in architecture. Concepts related with form: Module, proportion, rhythm, symmetry. Approaches on formalisation: Visualisation, abstraction, thinking and conceptualisation. Perceptional aesthetics, symbolic aesthetics, formal aesthetics.

 Week 7Analysis of spaces in view of aesthetics.
 Week 8Definitions of the concepts of beauty and aesthetics; their progress and changes in historical course; introduction to the aesthetic theories of 20th century.
 Week 9Mid-term exam
 Week 10Introduction to percept and perception; the place of beauty and aesthetics in the relationship of man and perception; the types of perception: audial, tactual, olfactif and visaul perception; the conditions of perception; the concepts of sense, emotion, to feel and to think in perception and aesthetics.
 Week 11The relationship between perception, aesthetics and architecture; the changing definitions of aesthetics by the context of perception, in the history of architectural course; the place and importance of beauty and aesthetics in architecture.
 Week 12The methods of aesthetic evaluation: Emotional aesthetics; the concepts of sensation, emotion and pleasure; discussions on the emotional aesthetics of architecture.
 Week 13The methods of aesthetic evaluation: Introduction to symbolic aesthetics; symbol, image, symbolic meaning; form of the building, spatial formalisations, materials, essential structure of lighting, constitutional colur concept; discussions on the symbolic aesthetics of architecture.
 Week 14The methods of aesthetic evaluation: Introduction to formal aesthetics; composition, gestalt, order, proportion, movement, rythm, hegemony, balance, unity, discussions on the formal aesthetics of architecture.
 Week 15Submitting the homeworks, evaluation of the course and discussions.
 Week 16End-of-term exam
