The aim of the course:
Establishing theoretical background of prevertaion of the historical building. Definition of contemporary protection theory from the 19th century to the nawoday protection measures and value be protected, restoration techniques (consolidation, integrated, adapted reuse, contemporar addition exc.), decision making making process for the selection of protection side, conservation techniques on sit conservation, street, neighborhood and urban scale.

Contents of the Course
Theoretical and conceptual development of historic preservation both national and internationa level, contemporary protection theories and their reflection on nowadays practices, explanation of historical environment and restoration techniques.

 Week 1History of the historic preservation thought (Italy, France, England and other country), development of the historic preservation concept and establishment of legal frame work (Athen and Venice chartes, European Heritage Year 1975, Amsterdan Declaration and other related declarations.
 Week 2Beginning and development of the historic preservation in Turkey, became organized and arrengment of the legal frame.
 Week 3Existing laws and arrengment (1710 and 2863 law and principals, national and international councils)
 Week 4Preserved values: monuments and sites
 Week 5Causes of Deterioration in Monuments: Internal and external causes
 Week 6The works before the restoration works: researches and documantation techniques (measured drawing work, restitution and restoration projects.
 Week 7Preparation of the restoration, restitution and other reports.
 Week 8The phase of prepration of the restoration project (singel building consolidation

 Week 10Adapted reuse of historic buildings
 Week 11Introduction to the preservation of historic environment
