The aim of the course:
The purposes of this course are to teach the sampling methods which are needed for laboratory tests that are carried out for geotechnical applications, one of the most important issues of geological engineering, and to carry out the rock and soil mechanics tests using these samples by the students

Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : conduct the tests necessary in geotechnical studies.2,3,41,4,
LO - 2 : prepare geotechnical reports.2,3,41,4,
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome

Contents of the Course
Introduction. Pyhsical properties of soil and rocks. Sampling and sample sample preparation for geotechnical tests, determination of physical properties of soil and rocks (water content, unit weight, porosity, hardness, etc.). Unconfined strength of rock materials, slake durability index, point load index, indirect tensile strenght (brazillian test), determination of granulometry of soils (dry sieve analysis), determination of plasticity properties of soils (liquidity and plasticticy test), compresibility of soils (Standard and modified proctor tests).
