The aim of the course:
provides geology students with the basic knowledge of processes leading to formation of mineral deposits, teaches them practical tips for understanding and evaluating mineralized and unmineralized samples in the immediate vicinity of mineral deposits, and ways of recognizing hydrothermal alteration patterns. The course also teaches known models of mineral deposits with best examples from around the globe. Mineral deposit types present in Turkey are also given due interest.

Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Describe the processes leading to formation of mineral deposits2,3,41,
LO - 2 : Recognise hydrothermal alteration zones associated with mineral deposits and identify the relationship between them and mineral deposits2,3,41,4,
LO - 3 : Explain the model of occurrence of any ore deposit based on basic knowledge of mineral deposits2,3,41,
LO - 4 : Put forward ideas about the locations suitable for the formation of mineral deposits using geological data and findings.2,3,41,
LO - 5 : Describe general features of ore deposits present or likely to be present in Turkey, and give examples for them2,3,41,4,
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome
