The aim of the course:
The main aim of this course is to teach how, where, why and when volcanic activities occur, and to show the positive and negative effects of these on living and environment.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Students will have knowledge of the formation and basic principles of volcanism. 2,71,5,
LO - 2 : Students will be able to explain the different volcanic structures and mechanism types of volcanic eruptions.2,71,5,

Contents of the Course
Introduction to volcanology, Main structural, mineralogical and chemical properties of the Earth, Physico-chemical properties, formation and types of magma, Plate tectonics and volcanism relations, Physical and dynamic volcanism, Volcanic structures; polygenetic and monogenetic volcanoes, calderas, Volcanic activities according to explosion dynamics and types, Volcanic products; lava products, pyroclastic deposits and types of gases. Sample volcanoes from the world; Mt. St. Helen (America), Yellowstone (America), Mt. Vesuvius (Italy), Krakatoa (Indonesia), Hawaii volcanic region (the Pacific Ocean), major volcanoes of Turkey; Mt. Ararat, Mt. Hasandağı, Mt. Erciyes, Mt. Suphan, Mt. Nemrut, Mt. Tendürek, Cappadocia (Nevşehir, C-Turkey) and Kula (Manisa, W Turkey) volcanic regions. Semester student presentations.
