The aim of the course:
To inform Maritime students about the onboard computer hardware and the basic computer programs used.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :

LO - 2 : Understand how other components of the computer, such as operating systems and compilers, are organized and related to the organization of the computer at a general level1,2,3,41,

Contents of the Course
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF COMPUTER PROGRAMMING: Mathematical and logical foundations of programming. Development of computers and their usage. Basic hardware and software information. COMPUTERIZED SYSTEMS USED IN SHIPPING: Examples of using computers and computerized systems in maritime PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES: Definition and development of programming languages. Examples of programming languages and sample programs. Data input - output statements, pattern printing. Library functions. Functions defined by users. Sub procedures. Disk files. USE OF READY PROGRAM SYSTEMS: Examples of ready-made (bundled) software. The use of computers as word processors (word, etc.) Usage of account statements in computers (lotus, Excel, Quatropro, etc.) Data storage Computer communication, network systems, (Web, internet)
