The aim of the course:
To prepare engineering students for the professional practice by providing them with firm knowledge of electrical engineering components, electronic measurement and display techniques.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Interpretation of physical activities from an engineering point of view.
LO - 2 : Recognition of techniques for determining the quantity of physical variables.
LO - 3 : Identification of measuring instruments and determining their properties.
LO - 4 : Assessment and interpretation of the measured data.
LO - 5 : Evaluation of the measurement uncertainties and limits of tolerances.

Contents of the Course
Fundamentals of electrical engineering and areas of applications, circuit elements and their properties, electronic measurement principles, sensors, data collection and evaluation, principles of measuring instruments, waveform display devices, sources of electrical energy, measurement and evaluation of electrical, thermal and mechanical quantities.
 
Course Syllabus

 Week 1Application areas of electrical engineering and related fields of activities. Quantities, units and standards. Fundamental electrical engineering components: sources of energy, conductors and insulators.
 Week 2Electrical circuit elements: resistors, capacitors, inductors, transformers and memristors.
 Week 3Measurement and error: properties of measuring instruments, analysis of measured data, uncertainty analysis, and experimental method.
 Week 4Analog measuring instruments for electrical quantities: ammeters, voltmeters, measurement of alternating current, energy measurements, measurement and loading errors.
 Week 5Digital measuring instruments for electrical quantities: electronic counters, analog to digital conversion, digital voltmeter.
 Week 6Waveform display devices: principle of operation and measurement with oscilloscopes, multi-channel oscilloscopes.
 Week 7Sources of electrical energy: linear-regulated and switching power supplies, batteries.
