The aim of the course:
are to provide the ability needed for machine design, forming important machine elements constitute the machines, teaching the strength of machine elements and their functions. One project related to these subjects is given through this course.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :

LO - 2 : determine the stresses originated from forces and design machine elements by means of failure theory1,31,6
LO - 3 : design axle, shaft and shaft-hub connections and calculate dimensions1,31,6
LO - 4 : design bolt and screw connections and calculate dimensions1,31,6
LO - 5 : design and calculate welding 1,31
LO - 6 : design elastic materials and calculate their dimensions.1,31
LO - 7 : design a mechanical system at realistic constraints and conditions.1,36

Contents of the Course
Stress analysis, deflection analysis, mechanical properties of materials, material selection. Fatique. Design of shafts. Design of detachable joints, bolts, power screws, keys, splines, pins, rings. Design of permanent joints, riveted joints, welded joints. Design of springs.
