The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide the students with a general knowledge on different theories of landscape architecture and to teach them how to use these knowledge in spatial analyzing.

Contents of the Course
Main aspects of different theories and methods in landscape architecture with contemporary interpretation. Inventory of spatial data through these theories and methods and forming a background for design. Conclude these theoretical studies with a pilot application.

 Week 2Positive theory, normative theory, concepts of theory in the design fields, procedural and substantive theory
 Week 3The concerns of behavioral sciences, the concerns of design, and the nature design problems, the contribution of the behavioral sciences to design theory
 Week 4Positive environmental design theory and design methodology
 Week 5Models of environmental design praxis, models of environmental design as a rational process, models of environmental design as an argumentative process.
 Week 6Model of the design process, intelligence phase, designing and the design phase, choosing and the choice phase.
 Week 7Substantive theory; the environmental and behavior, fundamental concepts, fundamental process of human behavior, built environment and human behavior
 Week 8Mid-term exam
 Week 9Aesthetic theory
 Week 10Normative environmental design theory, sociophysical issues in environmental design
 Week 11Students will define a research subject according to issues from the scope of course and discussion.
 Week 12Determining the scope and contents of defined research problem, discussion.
