The aim of the course:
To provide the graduate students from Forest Engineering and other related Departments with technical and practical knowledge on optimal structure concept by teaching methods.

Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : Necessity of optimal forest consept1
PO - 2 : Importance of establishing optimal structure in forests with different functions1,2
PO - 3 : Examples the determination of optimal structure of forests operated for conservation and service purposes 2,3
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), PO : Learning Outcome

Contents of the Course
Actual and optimal structure concepts and examination of them from functional aspects, Ecosystem Based Functional Planning approach; explanation of concepts normal forest, regular forest, optimal forest and optimal structures; Analyzing and classification of various management methods from the aspect of suitability to different forest functions; determination of areas and optimal formation to be allocated to soil conservation; determination of areas and optimal formation to be allocated to hydrological function; determination of areas and optimal formation to be allocated to aesthetic function; determination of areas and optimal formation to be allocated to recration function; Determination the form of deviation from optimal based on forest form and management methods while comparing actual and optimal structures, Derivation of different alternatives while leading actual structure to optimal planning.
