The aim of the course:
Providing the students with a general knowledge about major renewable energy resources such as solar energy, wind energy, hydraulic energy, geothermal energy and wave energy and about the types of energy conversion systems related to each of these sources.
 
Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : learn knowledge about main renewable energy sources and their advantages compared to conventional resources1,4,5,11
LO - 2 : learn the methods of energy production and energy conversion applied to each renewable energy sources1,4,5,11
LO - 3 : proposed mathematical relations for energy conversion in such sources and can predict mechanical energy amount could be obtained from any power system operated by using a renewable energy1,4,5,11
LO - 4 : compare and evaluate several energy sources from the energy density, energy efficiency, continuity, economy and applicability points of view1,4,5,11

Contents of the Course
Classification of conventional energy sources and renewable energy sources. General comparison of conventional energy sources with renewable energy sources. General knowledge about solar energy and solar power systems. Knowledge about wind energy and wind energy conversion systems (wind turbines) and theoretical determination of performance of wind turbines, applying momentum theory. Hydraulic energy and power generation systems for hydraulic sources. Knowledge about the formation of geothermal energy or geothermal cells and power generation from these sources. Prediction methods of the amount of heat obtainable from any geothermal source. Wave energy and wave energy conversion systems
