The aim of the course:
This course aims to expose the students to the principals and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in forestry and help gain practical experiences of using Arc/Info GIS

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Explain the concept of GIS, its components, functions and data structures2,41,
LO - 2 : Digitize paper maps, design a database and input attribute data to the spatial database in Arc/Info software Manage spatial database (maps and attribute tables), copy, move, erase and organize the feature classes as coverages2,43,
LO - 3 : Reclassify a map, conduct spatial and non-spatial queries and overlay a number of maps2,41,3,
LO - 4 : Prepare a map layout and print out a digital map with Arc/Info functions 2,41,3,

Contents of the Course
Conceptual framework of geographic information systems, general principles, components and spatial functions of computer based spatial data analysis in decisin-making. Data, information, database management systems, spatial data, vector and raster data models, data quality. The concepts of data input (digitizing), topology, data anaysis and data display with Arc/Info GIS sotware.
