The aim of the course:
To develop a strategic plan for the management of target forest pests. To present a balanced overview of environmentally safe and ecologically sound approaches applied to commonly used practices in insect pest management. To provide a critical appraisal of the theory and practice of key methods of integrated pest management. To emphasize some details of pest ecology and of forest ecology and management matter in the application of IPM.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : understand the major forest pest problems, their recognition and underlying causes; control methods, application objectives and their effective integration;3,4,5
LO - 2 : learn the ecological and management principles of pest control; economic and environmental costs of control methods and their evaluation3,4,5
LO - 3 : evaluate the research techniques, experimental design and statistics, modeling, sampling, taxonomic keys, bioassays, pesticide application, field safety, mass trapping3,4,5
LO - 4 : gain management and communication skills, including problem definition, project design, decision processes, teamwork, written and oral reports, scientific publications 3,4,5
LO - 5 : learn analyze and solve pest management- based problems using an integrated, multidisciplinary approach, applying professional judgments to balance costs, benefits, safety and social and environmental impact. 3,4,5
