The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide the students with a general knowledge of silviculture, to enable them to understand the characteristics of stand, effects of important habitat factors on tree and forest, forest types and their distributions around the world, to help them use their knowledge to understand the ecological factors on the forest formations and changing of natural and exotic forest tree species according to the geographical regions in Turkey.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :

LO - 3 : compare habitat factors with tree species distribution 1,2,6

LO - 5 : present the silvicultural characteristics of the natural and exotic tree species of Turkey 1,2,6

Contents of the Course
Description of forest, biocoenose in forest, mechanic and organic vision in forestry, description of Silviculture, aim and principles of Silviculture, relations of Silviculture with other forest sciences, locality and sustainability in forest, concept of stand, stand construction analyze, stand management types, stand stratum, stand canopy, canopy types and degrees, importance and effect of canopy, mixture and density of stand, mixture types, tree species of mixture, ratio of mixture, sustainability of mixture, mix stand types in Turkish forests, stand age, development and changing, stand growth speed and biodiversity, effects of important habitat factors on tree and forest, forest forms and types around the world, forest zones, natural forest borders, important characteristics of forest trees, main and accessory tree species in Turkish Forests and their silvicultural characteristics.
