Contents of the Course
Physical properties of sedimentary rocks: Bedding and lamination, cross bedding, graded bedding, varves and cyclothems. Principal geological rules: Law of Uniformitarianism, law of original horizontality, law of original continuity, law of superposition, law of inclusions, law of cross-cutting relationships, multiple working hypotheses, Pumpely rule, law of faunal succession. Primary sedimentary structures: Cross bedding, graded bedding, mud cracks, ripple marks, sole markings, rain imprints, channel structures, mud pebbles, convolut bedding and lamination, slump structures, bull and pillow structures. Primary igneous structures: Vesicles, contact metamorphic zones, pillow structures. Primary tectonic structures: Schistosity, drag folds, Stratigraphic contacts: Conformable contacts (abrupt and gradational) , unconformable contacts (disconformity, angular unconformity, nonconformity, diastem) , defining the disconformities in the field. Lithostratigraphy, Lithodemic units, Biostratigraphy, Chronostratigraphy and Geochronology, Magnetostratigraphy.
