The aim of the course:
Providing the student with a good understanding of the characteristics of Ottoman sea power in an attempt to place Ottoman naval organization in early modern naval developments; defining the Ottoman Empire as a regional as well as an international sea power with special reference to the rise of Ottoman imperial sea politics.

Contents of the Course
The introduction of Ottoman sea power in Mediterranean politics; commercial relations between the Ottoman Empire and the western states; the initial stages of and the basic characteristics of Ottoman naval organization.
