The aim of the course:
Students who take the Art History course are a science that examines the material cultural assets arising from the historical conditions; It aims to examine the formation, function and logic of visual arts in different places in a historical process, and to contribute to the understanding of art by making comments on artists and works.
 
Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Art History is a branch of science that examines the material cultural assets; They provide the ability to examine the formation, function and logic of visual arts in different places, in a historical process, and to make art understandable by making comments on artists and works.11,
LO - 2 : To be able to recognize the formation and development processes of Turkish Art by examining it in a cause-effect relationship.131,
LO - 3 : To be able to classify Turkish art and works of art by distinguishing historically and regionally from the beginning to the end of the Great Seljuk period.1,
LO - 4 : To be able to classify the Hun civilization and art together with its spheres of influence. To be able to determine the general characteristics of Göktürk and Uyghur civilizations and their arts. 1,
LO - 5 : To be able to explain the Karakhanid civilization and art with examples. To be able to follow the Ghaznavid civilization and art together with its spheres of influence. 1,
LO - 6 : To be able to observe the Great Seljuk civilization and art. To be able to recognize Caucasian Turkish Arts and their characteristics. 1,
LO - 7 : To be able to classify Turkish art and works of art from the Anatolian Seljuk period to the present by distinguishing historically and regionally.1,
LO - 8 : To be able to follow the development stages of the art and architecture of the Principalities Period.1,
LO - 9 : To be able to realize that the art of the Ottoman Period produced original peak works.1,
LO - 10 : To be able to follow the development stages of Western art and Western European architecture.1,

Contents of the Course
Art history, and the emergence of art science. Explanation of concepts related to art history and comparison of other disciplines related to art history. Art movements and their effects. Turkish-Islamic Arts and their classification.

 Week 1Notes on Art and Art History concepts, art types and plastic arts approach methodology.
 Week 2Observations on Anatolian civilizations and the seven wonders of the world.
 Week 3Pre-Islamic Turkish art is supported with visuals and detailed. The general features of the steppe art with animal pictures are presented. Pazyrik carpet is introduced.
 Week 4Introduction to Islamic Art and concepts are reminded. Islamic architecture sections are grouped. Building samples are examined. How to read the plan is explained.
 Week 5Medieval Islamic architecture is presented with its general features. Examples from Umayyad, Abbasid, Karahamlı, Ghaznavid and Great Seljuk Architecture are examined.
 Week 6Anatolian Seljuk Architecture is studied in groups with examples.
 Week 7Ottoman architecture is grouped and studied. Early, Classical and late Ottoman architecture is discussed with examples. The developmental stages of Ottoman architecture are determined. The westernization stylistic features of late Ottoman architecture are examined.
 Week 8Ottoman architecture is grouped and studied. Early, Classical and late Ottoman architecture is discussed with examples. The developmental stages of Ottoman architecture are determined. The westernization stylistic features of late Ottoman architecture are examined.
 Week 9Measurement and evaluation are made with a midterm exam.
 Week 10Ottoman architecture is grouped and studied. Early, Classical and late Ottoman architecture is discussed with examples. The developmental stages of Ottoman architecture are determined. The westernization stylistic features of late Ottoman architecture are examined.
