To engage students in critical analysis and evaluation of empirical research studies within the field of L2 writing.
To explore the theoretical foundations and practical applications of L2 writing, including writing processes, social and cultural contexts, feedback mechanisms, and technological tools.
To develop students' ability to apply key theoretical frameworks and concepts to practical teaching and assessment strategies in L2 writing instruction.

This course is designed to provide an in-depth exploration of research in L2 (foreign/second language) writing, with a focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of the field. The course will cover a wide range of topics related to L2 writing, including the processes of writing, the social and cultural contexts of writing, the role of feedback and assessment in writing development, and the use of technology in L2 writing.
Throughout the course, students will engage with key theoretical frameworks and debates in the field of L2 writing, as well as critically evaluate empirical research studies. The course will also provide opportunities for students to develop practical skills related to teaching and assessing L2 writing, through the analysis of student writing samples and the design of writing tasks and assessment rubrics.
By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of research in L2 writing, as well as the ability to critically evaluate and apply this research in a variety of contexts. This course is suitable for graduate students and advanced undergraduate students who have a strong foundation in the study of language and writing. The topics to be covered include:
