The aim of the course:
To introduce the field of linguistics with its outlines and to teach its methods of studying; to put forward the general rules leading to use the written and oral language and currents.

Contents of the Course
Language philosopy; definition of linguistics, its contents, history, its relationship with other sciences, relationschip between linguistics and tradiotional grammer; linguistic analysis, and the differences in the main qualification; basic linguistic currents and representatives.

 Week 2definition of linguistics and its procedural principles; its being a science field and its grammar, its relationship with philology and literature sciences
 Week 3the history of linguistics, comparative linguistics, historical linguistics
 Week 4language and communication; main elements of oral communication, functions of written communication
 Week 5indication and the system of indication; indication and symbol, indicator of language, features of language indicator; the illustrated, the indicative, referent
 Week 6General linguistics, the concept of system, double contrasts, language-word, diachronism- synchronism, systematic and snyntagmatic relations, meaning and worth.
 Week 7Language's double articulation and linguistic units, language's axles of correlation
 Week 8Natural languages; the classification of natural languages, natural and artificial languages, verbal language's coming first
 Week 9Mid-term exam
 Week 10The reality of language's being diachronic and synchronous.
 Week 11Linguistics after Ferdinad De Saussure; environments of linguistics like Prag and Kopenhag; Martinet, Tesniére, Guillaume.
 Week 12DELIVERY AND PRESENTATION OF HOMEWORKS
 Week 13American structuralism; Sapir, Haris, Chomsky; producer and transformational grammar.
 Week 14Definitions and main concepts in producer-transformational grammar, application to Turkish.
