The aim of the course:
The aim of the course is to enable students to gain the skill of applying the correct planning model in different contexts and conditions by comparing planning models, and to help them understand the philosophical and conceptual depth of planning.

Contents of the Course
modern planning approaches, different theories and techniques in urban planning, early period planning approaches such as utopians and modernists, rational comprehensive planning, incremental planning, third way approach, value-oriented planning theories, advocacy planning,equity planning, collaborative and participatory planning models, strategic planning, analysis of the planning system in force in Turkey, rationality, systems approach, rational decision-making model, strategic decision-making model, interactive decision-making model

 Week 3Planning approaches from the Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution - urbanization approaches, Thomas More and the concept of Utopia, utopian planners, ideal city models.
 Week 4early modernist urban planners: Howard, Le Corbusier, Wright
 Week 5modern planning theories, Comprehensive Planning, Rational Comprehensive Planning, Systems Approach
 Week 6Critiques of Rational Comprehensive Planning; incremental planning, third way approaches
 Week 7Value-oriented planning models; advocacy planning, equity planning
 Week 8Value-oriented planning models; discussions on egalitarian planning and democratic planning
