The aim of the course:
To develop stylistic awareness necessary for effective communication in various spheres of the Russian language, both in its written and spoken forms, and to enhance students? oral and written expression skills.

Contents of the Course
The course Stylistics introduces key concepts such as types of communication, language norms, stylistic meaning, and expressive-emotional features of language. It examines the system of functional styles in both written and spoken forms and helps students understand stylistic distinctions at lexical, grammatical, and syntactic levels, as well as the expressive devices of the Russian language (tropes and stylistic figures).

 Week 2Purpose, methods, nature, situations, and spheres of communication in Russian.
 Week 3Bookish vs. colloquial styles in Russian.
 Week 4Bookish vs. colloquial styles in Russian (continued).
 Week 5Connotation and its types. Expression of evaluation in Russian (phonetic, lexical, grammatical levels).
 Week 6Colloquial style and its main features (spontaneity, openness, informality, etc.).
 Week 7Colloquial style. Principle of speech effort economy and its realization at all language levels.
 Week 8Colloquial style. Tendency toward analyticism and features of information presentation (word order, lexical markers, etc.).
 Week 9Mid-term exam
 Week 10Feedback, Evaluation and Review after the Exam. Colloquial style. Lexical-phraseological and grammatical features.
 Week 11Official-business style: main characteristics (repetitiveness, uniformity, imperativeness, etc.).
 Week 12Official-business style. Lexical and grammatical features. Application, explanatory note, business letter, CV.
 Week 13Official-business style. Lexical and grammatical features. Oral business communication. Negotiations.
 Week 14Scientific style: main characteristics (objectivity, abstraction, logic, generalization, etc.). Features of oral and written forms.
