FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
The Department of Russian Language and Literature was established within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. This was realised with the decision of the Faculty Board dated 30.12.2008 and numbered 180/1, the proposal of the University Senate dated 30.12.2009 and numbered 22/8 and the approval of the Executive Board of Higher Education in accordance with Article 7/2-d of the Law No. 2547 amended by Law No. 2880. The department has established its academic staff with a qualified team and started its educational activities as of 2015.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
Graduates are awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Russian Language and Literature.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  

High school and equivalent school graduation diploma 

Those who have fulfilled the requirements of the Turkish Higher Educational Council and who achieved the required score from the National University Entrance and Placement Exam (LYS) are admitted to the Department.

OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Graduates within a few years following their graduation,
They can continue academic and/or continuing education programmes for their professional career development,
They can undertake different tasks in public institutions / organisations and domestic / foreign private sector organisations in their professional fields,
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
Each of the 8 semesters of education and training successfully completed one of the courses and completed at least 240 ECTS students receive a Bachelor's degree.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
For each course, a midterm exam (seminar, quiz, homework or a second midterm exam, (50%) and a final exam (50%) are applied. All exams are evaluated out of 100 points. It is obligatory to get at least 45 points from the final exam. Students who receive one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) from a course successfully complete that course. At the end of each semester, students can take the make-up exam from the courses of that semester.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
In order to graduate from the Department of Russian Language and Literature, at least 150 hours and 240 ECTS credits must be taken at the end of the fourth year. In addition, those who take preparatory education must take a total of 48 hours and 60 ECTS credits during their education.
 
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
The graduates can work as teachers of Russian in primary, secondary and high schools; as lecturers of Russian in private and state-run universities; as research assistants in similar academic institutions; as guides, interpreters; and as staff in the import-export departments of private companies. Some of our students have also gained job opportunities in the tourism and aviation industry as well as business.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in graduate programmes provided that they get a valid grade from ALES exam and have sufficient level of English and Russian grammar.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
Our department, which is located in the KTU Faculty of Literature building, benefits from the facilities of the Faculty library, free study area, computer laboratory. Along with smart boards in our classrooms, projectors, computers, sound systems are available.
Our department, which provides 100% Russian education, has faculty members whose mother tongue is Russian, education process with foreign students whose mother tongue is Russian, erasmus opportunities.
