The aim of the course:
Inform the students on the issues of democracy and civil society with reference to various political ideologies and discussion of basic rights and freedoms. Increase awareness on the role of civil society organizations and groups in today's world.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Discuss the concept of democracy in the framework of modern social and political ideologies.1,2,4,16
LO - 2 : Define the concept of civil society and its scope.1,2

LO - 4 : Compare and contrast different social and political structures in respect to civil society.10,13

Contents of the Course
The discussion of modern socio-political ideologies in reference to democracy. The change in the definition and nature of civil society in historical process. The place of civil society in today's democratic and anti-democratic societies.
