The aim of the course:
To ensure that sociology students become familiar with the close relationship between their discipline and philosophy.
 
Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Knows the philosophical debates about the scientific status of the social sciences.
LO - 2 : Learn about the views of thinkers such as Comte, Durkheim, Weber and Marx that shaped sociology.
LO - 3 : Understands the philosophical foundations of sociology.
LO - 4 : Understands why sociologists needs philosophy.
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome

 
Contents of the Course
The philosophical foundations of sociology will be examined within the framework of the views of philosophers such as Kant, Durkheim, Weber and Marx.
