The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is to enable student to analyze the social structure and problems of Turkey in historical process and to make a more healthy analysis about today's Turkey with the structural and cultural information they provide.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Describe basic concepts related to sociological theories
LO - 2 : Understand the ıntellectual origins of sociological theories
LO - 3 : It links of ıntellectual roots of theories with contemporaries.
LO - 4 : Understand to importance of theories in terms of science
LO - 5 : It compares theories.
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome

 
Contents of the Course
In this course, rayah, military and bureaucratic parts of the Ottoman society are discussed.Devshirm and merit systems are examined, the transition from Ottoman state to the Turkish nation state and the proces nationalization are emphasized. In this framework the formation of modern Turkey, religious, economic, education and political are extensive studied.
