The aim of the course:
To develop and improve students' ability to perceive the subject of philosophy and its basic concepts, methodology, sub-disciplines and way of reasoning and to carry out the act of philosophical questioning.
 
Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : comprehend fundemantal concepts, subjects and problems of philosophy.
LO - 2 : be acquainted with the investigation field of philosophy of knowledge and its main concepts and problems.
LO - 3 : be acquainted with the investigation field of philosophy of science and its main concepts and problems.
LO - 4 : be acquainted with the investigation field of ontology and its main concepts and problems.
LO - 5 : be acquainted with the investigation field of moral philosophy, philosophy of language and education and their main concepts and problems.
LO - 6 : comprehend the difference between philosophy and the other disciplines like art and physics.
LO - 7 : perceive specific method of philosophy and its way of reasoning.
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome

 
Contents of the Course
Basic philosophical issues such as entity, knowledge and value, basic philosophical investigation methods, the major philosophical schools, the relationship of philosophy with other disciplines, philosophical foundations basic social issues, philosophical questioning of everyday life, the development of philosophical perspective, contemporary philosophical trends, and examination of the most outstanding thinkers in Turkey and the world.
