The aim of the course:
With this course, it is aimed to teach and skill-building to compile (from sources such as CAD, RS)/create new/edit/update/store, analyze/query and present data in a database system that will enable Geographic Information Systems to be used within the scope required by the discipline of City and Regional Planning.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : design and update spatial database and apply basic digitising methods, to make attributed maps and to use their cartographic properties.17,191,3,4,
LO - 2 : know techniques of making thematic maps of spatial analysis and the result of information query.15,161,3,4,
LO - 3 : will be able to make 3D digital elevation modelling, slope and aspect analysis in addition to other analyses carried out using basic GIS functions.7,10,12,131,3,4,
LO - 4 : develop to produce synthesis maps by using overlay analysis and to calculate qualititative/quantitative values to be use as an input for planning.1,41,3,4,

Contents of the Course
In order to qualify the students with knowledge and skills on GIS data and analysis techniques that should be used in planning education, the course content involves the basic context of GIS (definition, components, etc.) and data structure; mapping concepts such as projections, coordinate systems, and datum; geographical and topological data structures, data sources and technologies supporting GIS; basic and advanced GIS functions; data accuracy/sensitivity; interpolation techniques; 3D analyses; network analyses; overlay (threshold, etc.) analyses; mapping for presentation purposes.
