The aim of the course:
The aims of the course are to provide the students will understand of the city phenomenon and the multidimensional relation of the city. They will be able to evaluate how social, economic, technologic and politic factors determine the pattern of settlements in different cultures.

Contents of the Course
Urbanization, settlement patterns and planning in the West and the East world from ancient times to the industrial revolution and their critical evaluation in relation to cultural entities. - Neolithic settlements in Anatolia: the case of Çatalhöyük , - Urban revolution, the era of cities and kingdoms (Bronze Age) , - The transportation and settlement network in Hittites Anatolia and the capital city Hattuşa, - Antiquity Greek City: Polis and Ionian Cities. - The city in imperial age, Roman Empire- The city in medieval Europe, - Urban planning and design in Renaissance thought, - Enlightenment, industrial revolution and modern city - Urbanization, urban problem and new approach to city during the 19th century. - Early 20th century, modernization, functionalism, CIAM and other developments.
