The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide the students with a general knowledge on materials handling systems to include both surface and underground mining, to highligth haulage systems commonly used in mines, to teach them how to select for haulage equipment among current technology.

Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : identify materials handling systems used for mining application.31,
LO - 2 : calculate truck cycle times and the productivity in a loading and hauling system.1,51,
LO - 3 : know about belt conveyor technologies and calculate belt conveyor capacities.1,51,
LO - 4 : define rail haulage systems for underground mining.1,51,
LO - 5 : distinguish the differences between continuous and discontinuous haulage systems.31,
LO - 6 : take responsibility to design materials handling systems both for surface and underground mining.1,3,51,
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome
