| Map projections: The shape and size of the Earth; Reference surfaces for the Earth; Spherical models for the Earth. Planar models for the Earth. An introduction to map projections. Deformations in map projections. Equidistant, equal area and conform projections. Azimuthal projections; Gnomonic and stereographic projections. Cylindrical projections. Gauss-Krüger projection. Distance, angle and area reductions in map projections. UTM projection. Conic projections. Cartography: Basic concepts. Map and scale. Map sheet division by geographical coordinates. Map composition; representing information on maps, color systems, symbolization. Map Generalization. Representing elevations on maps. Digital elevation models. Using maps; area, volume, cut and fill calculations, profiling and other analysis. Thematic cartography and thematic maps. Reproduction of maps. |
