FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
The Department of Interior Architecture at Karadeniz Technical University was established in 1993-1994 academic year in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Between the years 1993 and 2000 students registered at the department by Special Skills Examination but after 2000 they have been entering at the department in accordance with the results they receive from the main exam held by Student Selection and Placement Center every year. Today the department has got skilful, experienced young academic staff. Some of the courses are given by other academicians from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts, the Department of Industrial Forestry and related disciples.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have graduated from the Department of Interior Architecture is awarded with a Bachelor's degree in the field of İnterior Architecture

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - High school diploma 2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (ÖSS)
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
The curriculum with aim coached students - will be able to achieve knowledge and skills that are responsible, develop habit using time correctly, researchers, the artistic and intellectual traits transformed proffessional practice as well as scientific and technological- is carried out in KTU Department of Interior Architecture accepting of educational approach appropriate to requirenments of era. Knowledge transformation simultaneously is provided from building science, structural science, architectural history and restoration of the main departments by accepting holistic and participatory approach giving priority cooperation between different disciplines in interior architecture education. In addition, experienced architects and interior designers for projects and a final project with the students' participation in such practical courses, vocational or practical knowledge on the subject to be provided.Department of Interior Architecture education consists of theoretical courses, workshops, symposium and similar studies, demonstrations with visual expression and degree studies. Education program involve elective courses from different disciplines as well as a compulsory courses - architectural design, building science, structural science, art and architectural history, history of furniture and history of art, visual perception, aesthetics, interior space organization, materials-technology, restoration, computer added design.On the other hand, teaching computer added design and computer language is one of the important goals in terms of utilizing from computer technology developing in the Interior Architecture Department. For this reason, the department has adequate courses that will be able to teach expression with computer language assignments, researches and designs of students about computer added design.Double major branches, collateral branches and horizontal passing programs are composed in KTU Department of Interior Design for students.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
To be able to secure the bachelor's degree in the field of Interior Architecture the students are required to
(a) have passed all courses in the curiculum with a grade of at least DC form the,
(b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00,
(c) completed the compulsory practical placement period of 60 days at least at two diferent places and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements,
(d) prepared a graduation thesis, submitted and successfully defended with a passing grade
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
Each course is assessed the mid-term studies (a mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks, assignments) and a final end of -term exam,with contributions of 50% At lesat mark is must be 45. The marking is made out of 100. Gradek of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires at lesat 2.0 for that term. Graduation Project is evaluated according to interior architecture framework.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The graduation requirements for the Department of Interior Architecture are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and completed the compulsory practical placement period of 60 days and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
Interior architects can work at design studios or architectural offices with a team consisting of an architect, interior architect, civil engineer and other related professions. Showrooms, fairs, banks, exhibitions, bazaars, stage-screens, yacht, plane, and furniture designs are some of the opportunities for the graduates. The graduates have the chance to become designer or production controller in a modular design or furniture design firm. They can also work in municipalities, ministries and universities.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
The students who have successfully graduated from the department may apply to post graduate programmes in the field of Interior Architecture here and in other universities, as well as other fields accepting student from the field of Interior Architecture.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
Classes are delivered on the ground and first floors in classrooms of 50-60 chairs at the School of Law due to restoration and repair work carried out at the school of architecture.
