FOUNDATION & HISTORY
Department of Physiology was established in 1982 with founding of Faculty of Medicine, Karadeniz Technical University (K.T.U). Postgraduate programs (master and doctora ) were initiated in Institute of Health Sciences in 1990. The Department of Physiology currently has 4 academic staff (1 full professor, 2 associated professors and 1 assistant professor).

Master's Degree
LEVEL of QUALIFICATION:
Qualifications Frameworks in the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA), Level 2
European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL), Level 7
MODE of STUDY
Full Time
ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
- To graduate from a department or faculty that meets the "Graduation Prerequisites for Application to Graduate Programs" determined by the Board of Health Sciences Institute and approved by the Karadeniz Technical University Senate.
- Having ALES (Quantitative/Equally Weighted) and a Foreign Language base score determined by the Board of Health Sciences Institute and approved by the KTU Senate (Application and Entry Requirements for the Graduate Programs of the KTU Health Sciences Institute).
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME
The field of Medical Physiology is very wide, and its totality is inaccessible for research purposes. The Master of Science programme in KTU Department of Physiology is a research and thesis-based integrated master's degree programme at the Faculty of Medicine and exclusively concentrates on basic research in the most innovative aspects of Neurophysiology, Neuroendocrinology, Cardiovascular Physiology depending upon the research interest of students and advisors through the postgraduate courses. Part of the course is dedicated to training the students in the methodological aspects of research, such as handling of experimental data, statistical inference, the use of basic techniques in physiological research, and the use of new digital technology to analyse signals and images obtained in laboratory experiments. Study involves theoretical and methodological courses and Masters thesis studies.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS
The study period of the program is four semesters and can be extended to a maximum of six semesters. By the end of the fourth semester at the latest, the student must have successfully completed minimum seven courses stated in the curriculum including compulsory and elective courses, one of which must be in English, corresponding to at least 21 credits (120 ECTS credits) in total as well as the "Seminar" course and the "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics" course (non-credit). Also, at the end of the sixth semester at the latest, the thesis study must be completed, and the student must be accepted successful in the thesis defense examination.
