FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Department of Econometrics was established in 1994 in order to educate qualified personnels for the fields of work in private and public sector. Education and research in the department have been divided into basic fields as economics, mathematics, statistics and operations research. In addition, department has offerred master's degree in econometrics.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed all courses in the programme with 240 ECTS credits and achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are given Bachelor's Degree in Econometrics.

OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Department of Econometrics carries out a curriculum to educate students who can produce solutions using economics theory, mathematics and statistics.The
curriculum constructed to achieve these objectives contain courses in the field of econometrics, statistics, econometrics, mathematics, micro and macro economics, international economics and business management.In addition to compulsory courses, the students are given the chance of taking courses from the list of elective courses based on their own preferences, which makes the programme flexible from the students' perspective. This enables the department to educate mathematical economists who have the competency to work individually or in groups to identify econometrics problems and find solutions for them.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
To be able to secure the bachelor's degree in the field of econometrics, the students are required to
(a) have passed all courses in the curriculum with a grade of at least DC grade,
(b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00,
(c) have prepared a graduation thesis, submitted and successfully defended with a passing grade.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Econometrics bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 50%, and 50% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 81-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 76-80 BA, 70-75 BB, 60-69 CB, 50-59 CC, 45-49 DC, 40-44 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass that requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. Total grade of the student must be at least 45 in order to be successful for a cource. Students may take the makeup exam from the courses they fail in the final exam.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The graduation requirements for the Department of Econometrics are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and had a passing grade for the graduating thesis.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
The graduates of department can work in the research units of private and public sector for the application of microeconomics, macroeconomics and international economics. Some public establishments in which they can work are Turkish Statistical Institute, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, Capital Markets Board, Borsa Istanbul, all banks, insurance and research companies.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
The students who have successfully graduated from the department may apply to post graduate programmes in the field of econometrics here and in other universities, as well as other fields accepting student from the field of econometrics.

Its computer laboratories and technology classes, the department prepares its students for the competitive labor market. It has a staff composed of 4 professors, 2 doctor lecturer, and 2 researchers.
