ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Karadeniz Technical University, Graduate Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences. For detail please check https://www.ktu.edu.tr/dosyalar/fbe_7a980.pdf for details.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME
Biotechnology is a science that uses the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology and cell biology, biological techniques and engineering principles, which are gaining importance day by day and rapidly developing, for living systems and solving the problems encountered in this field. It is an exciting field in which genetic information is transferred between organisms for the purpose of elucidating important biological events or developing useful products. The importance and impact of biotechnology is felt in many other fields, especially medicine, pharmacy, agriculture and environment, in parallel with technological developments.
Considering the ever-increasing strategic importance of biotechnology and molecular biology in the world and the developments in this field, scientific competence must be present in order to develop these sectors in our country and to provide them with a sustainable and effective structure. The most appropriate way to achieve this is to bring together the scientific knowledge and experiences of scientists from different disciplines of life sciences and to train young researchers who can benefit from this common energy. Biotechnology multidisciplinary program at Karadeniz Technical University, which has sufficient infrastructure, started its graduate education activities on 15.06.2016.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS
The conditions that students must meet in order to obtain a master's degree in biotechnology; a) To have taken 21 credits (60 ECTS) courses and passed with at least a CC degree, b) To have achieved a weighted average of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, c) To be successful by preparing a master's thesis and presenting it in front of a jury.
KTU Graduate Education Regulations
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS
Students are subjected to a midterm exam, midterm study (laboratory work, laboratory exam, seminar, quiz, homework, or a second midterm exam) and final exam for each course. The contribution of the midterm exam to the success grade is 30%, the contribution of the work during the semester is 20% and the contribution of the final exam is 50%. All exams are evaluated over 100 points. It is obligatory to get at least 45 points from the final exam. Students who get one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) in a course are considered successful in that course. Midterm and final exams are held on pre-announced dates.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Having successfully completed at least 21 credits (equivalent to 60 ECTS) courses from the graduate programs of the department or other related departments and successfully completing all of them, obtaining a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00, and successfully preparing the thesis in a related field in front of a selected jury. Advocating students are awarded a master's degree in Biotechnology.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES
Students who complete the graduate program can work with various public institutions and organizations in the private sector on issues related to their fields.
