European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL), Level 7
MODE of STUDY
Full Time
ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
To graduate from a department or faculty that meets the "Graduation Prerequisites for Application to Graduate Programs" determined by the Graduate School of Sciences and approved by the Karadeniz Technical University Senate. - To have a foreign language base score in order to be exempt from ALES (NUMBER) and foreign language preparation, which is determined by the Graduate School of Sciences Board and approved by the KTU Senate (Application and Entry Requirements for the Graduate Programs of the KTU Graduate School of Sciences). - Students admitted to the program from outside the field must attend the Scientific Preparation Program and be successful in the courses determined by the Institute Board.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME
The field of Molecular Biology and Genetics, which is gaining importance day by day and developing rapidly, is a science that uses biological techniques and engineering principles for living systems and solving the problems encountered in this field. Courses in the fields of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Genetic Engineering, Microbiology, Molecular Cell Biology and Systems Biology are given and graduate theses are made within the scope of the graduate program, whose language of instruction is Turkish. Graduate students learn how to use laboratory equipment in the best way and research techniques in this field by actively participating in projects carried out in research laboratories with faculty members. With the graduate program, it is aimed to train qualified researchers who have specialized theoretical and practical knowledge, can work independently, have different perspectives on hypothesizing, writing projects and conducting research, and can shape the future and their future.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS
The conditions that students must meet in order to obtain a master's degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics; a) To have taken 21 credits (60 ECTS) courses and passed with at least a CC degree, b) To have achieved a weighted average of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, c) To be successful by preparing a master's thesis and presenting it in front of a jury.
