The aim of the course:
Gaining insight in the properties of hydrocarbon fuels and basic concepts related to combustion thermochemistry.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : Understand the properties of fossil fuel, hydrocarbons11,
LO - 2 : Understand air-excess coefficient, combustion type and combustion stoichiometry11,
LO - 3 : Evaluate combustion type and combustion equations. Doing several numerical application for combustion equations11,
LO - 4 : evaluate enthalpy of combustion, heating value, adiabatic flame Temperature, chemical equilibrium, second law considerations and equilibrium products of combustion11,
LO - 5 : Apply and doing several numerical application for determining combustion products and adiabatic flame temperature etc.11,

Contents of the Course
Fossil fuels and properties of hydrocarbons. Air-excess coefficient and combustion types. Combustion stoichiometry. Enthalpy of combustion and heating values. Adiabatic flame temperatures. Chemical equilibrium and second law considerations. Equilibrium products of combustion

 Week 1General information of fossil fuels and hydrocarbon fuels. Properties and classification fosil fuels and hydrocarbon.
 Week 2General information of alternative fuels. Properties and using methos of alternative fuels in engines.
 Week 3Excess air coeficient and combustion types.
 Week 4Stoichiometric combustion reaction. Writting combustion reaction for internal combustion engines by taking into account excess air coeficient.
 Week 5Calculation of combustion prodcts by using chemical formula of fuels.
 Week 6Solving of examples relates of this subjects.
 Week 7Adyabatic flame temperature, chemical equilibrium, second law consideration and determination of coeficient of chemical equilibrium.
 Week 8Mid-term exam
 Week 9 Calculation of combustion prodcts by benefit from coeficient of chemical equilibrium.
 Week 10Numerical applications of determination of combustion products.
 Week 11Numerical applications of determination of combustion products.
 Week 12Giving description of formation ethalpy, reaction enthalpy, combustion enthalpy and heating value.
 Week 13 Giving calculation methods of formation ethalpy, combustion enthalpy and heating value.

 Week 15 Exhaust pollution from internal combustion engines and decreament method these pollution.
