The aim of the course:
TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BRIDGE ORGANIZATION AND THE DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES OF OFFICERS; TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING A SAFE WATCH IN NAVIGATION, PORT AND ARROW AND TO TEACH SAFE WATCH KEEPING PROCEDURES; TO UNDERSTAND THE CONTENT AND IMPORTANCE OF EXPEDITION PLANNING; TO INTRODUCE NAVIGATION DEVICES AND THEIR PUBLICATIONS AND TO TEACH THE USE AND MAINTENANCE OF NAVIGATION DEVICES; TO UNDERSTAND THE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN DURING THE SHIFT IN RESTRICTED VISION, SHALLOW WATERS, Narrow CANALS AND STRAITS OR WATERS WITH HIGH TRAFFIC; TO LEARN WHAT TO DO WHEN APPROACHING THE PORT AREA; TO TEACH SHIP TRAFFIC SERVICES AND SHIP REPORTING SYSTEMS; TO UNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPLES OF BRIDGE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT; TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION, TEAM SPIRIT, LEADERSHIP AND CONFIRMATION ON THE BRIDGE; TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF TEAM EXPERIENCE; TO TEACH THE RULES TO BE APPLIED FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT; TO LEARN MEASURES THAT CAN BE TAKEN AFTER MARINE ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : EXPLAIN DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETENCIES OF CAPTAIN AND WATCHKEEPING OFFICERS
LO - 2 : EXPLAIN THE STEPS AND CONTENT OF PASSAGE PLANNING AND MAKE A SIMPLE PASSAGE PLAN
LO - 3 : THEY KNOW SAFE NAVIGATION, KEEPING PORT AND ANCHOR WATCHES, AND HOW TO ACT IN POTENTIALLY UNSAFE SITUATIONS.

BRIDGE ORGANIZATION, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF OFFICERS AND SUITABILITY FOR DUTY; REQUIRED TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND DOCUMENTS DURING TRIP PLANNING AND NAVIGATION; USE AND MAINTENANCE OF NAVIGATION DEVICES; RULES TO BE OBSERVED FOR SAFE NAVIGATION, PORT, ANCHOR AND PORT WATCH KEEPING; RULES TO BE OBSERVED DURING ENTRY AND EXIT OF THE PORT; RULES TO BE OBSERVED IN RESTRICTED VISIBILITY, NARROW CHANNELS AND STRAITS, PILOTAGE AND COASTAL NAVIGATION; BRIDGE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, SHIP TRAFFIC SERVICES AND SHIP REPORTING SYSTEMS, PROTECTION OF THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT.
