The aim of the course:
Having students acquired ; - theoretical and practical background to use GMDSS Subsystems. - ability to conduct Distress, Urgency and Safety Communications. - responsibilities to keep radio watch on a ship radio station.

Contents of the Course
GMDSS Master Plan and Sea Areas. Certificates Licenses and Log Book according to GMDSS. Carriage Requirements. Terrestrial Communication Systems. Satellite Systems. Actual Equipment Utilization. VHF/MF/HF VHF DSC and HF DSC Equipment. List of Coast Stations, List of Ship Stations and ALRS references. Inmarsat C, EPIRB and SART Equipment GMDSS Master Plan and Sea Areas. Certificates Licenses and Log Book according to GMDSS. Carriage Requirements. Terrestrial Communication Systems Types of Distress Communication, Frequencies and abbreviations Distress, Urgency and Safety Communication Procedures. Distress Relay communication and False Alerts.
 
Course Syllabus

 Week 1Morse code to communicate with a searchlight.
 Week 2International Signal Code book, meaning a single letter signs, the use of code books.
 Week 3Radio-telephone communication, distress, urgency and security messages.
 Week 4Port authorities and marine traffic control stations and communications.
 Week 5Listen to the frequency of distress, keep the radio journal, radio-telex communication.
 Week 6Urgency of the global maritime distress and safety system, safety, distress and methods of taking and sending messages about navigation.
 Week 7The necessary methods for receive and allow distress, urgency and safety messages using earth stations.
 Week 8Presentation of GMDSS, the new system's formation and international rules.
 Week 9 Mid-term exam
 Week 10COSPAS/SARSAT, EPIRB devices, INMARSAT system, the determination of maritime regions.
 Week 11Frequencies must to be list in GMDSS, frequencies are used for distress and safety messages.
 Week 12Region must be used according to the devices, INMARSAT-A and INMARSAT-C and sending an emergency call for help. Practical exam and evaluation students.
 Week 13DSC system, INMARSAT satellite communications in the general usage.
 Week 14Antenna orientation, telex satellite communication, satellite-telephone and fax communication.
 Week 15INMARSAT-M, pricing and collection.
